What You Need to Know About Furniture Care

Solid wood rustic furniture may endure a lifetime and beyond if properly cared for and maintained. The problem is, what do you need to do on a daily basis to assure this long life? It's tough, durable,, and ageless, but solid wood furnishings, like the rest of us, require some loving care.

When something spills, clean it right away.

Let's assume you bought a beautiful live edge coffee table. You don't want watermarks the next day after installation, so let's start with a reminder that prevention is always preferable to cure.

Placemats are the friends of solid wood furniture. In fact, they are best friends! Use them whenever possible and try to avoid spills. If disaster strikes and you have a spill, speed is essential. Soak up as much liquid as possible with paper towels before moving on to a soft yet damp cloth for ultimate perfection.

Use caution when handling hot items.

If you put a hot object on top of solid wood furniture, there's a chance it will discolor or scorch the surface. Both are difficult to remove and may leave scars that are almost impossible to repair, but a fine gauge wire wool may assist.

Wipe often and thoroughly

Clean slate and start fresh. As with any new phase in your life, you may experience some growing pains while adjusting to a path that includes minimal contact with people or technology. You might feel lonely or isolated, but the lack of online contact can actually provide you time to reconnect with nature and think about what matters most.

Maybe begin with a cloth.

Wood, being a natural material, is susceptible to temperature changes throughout the year. You may try to compensate for this as much as possible by considering where you'll place your pieces. Avoid direct sunlight whenever feasible, as well as heat sources such as wood stoves and when it comes to bathrooms, make sure that your furniture has been designed and built with hot steam in mind.

If there is any damage, treat it up.

Accidents do happen, but carelessness is inexcusable! Treat any damage to your pieces as soon as possible, whether it's a scratch, a chip, or a gouge. If they have a solid customer service policy, they should be only too happy to assist you.
